Florida Hotel Insurance: Yelp for Hotels

Florida Hotel Insurance

Yelp is business review site that helps consumers find every type of business imaginable, ranging from hair stylists to restaurants and hotels. It boasts over 78 million monthly unique visitors, and users have written over 30 million local reviews. This post is brought to you by Newman Crane Florida Hotel Insurance programs.

While Yelp is based on user reviews, not all of the information is user generated. As a Florida hotel owner or manager, you can claim your hotel’s site and provide property details and descriptions, advertise special offers, post photos, and respond to reviews.

Having a well-optimized site adds value to member reviews, increases interaction with customers, and can drive business to your site and guests to your hotel. Yet despite the benefits, many Florida hotels remain inactive on Yelp, leaving their pages to the users and missing out on a great marketing opportunity.

There are several options you can take when you “unlock” or claim their listing. Yelp allows you to list your address, phone number, and website link free of charge. You can also complete the “About this Business” section to give more details about your hotel. You can add photos, descriptive captions, and regularly update the Announcements section. There is also a section for paid options, such as video or photo slideshows, that you can add to further optimize your site.

Mobile has created a generation of on-the-go, tech-savvy travelers. Yelp has a range of options optimized for mobile too, with features to attract walk-in traffic and last-minute business. Make sure your hotel’s site is optimized for mobile as well- it makes a detrimental first impression when a hotel site is difficult to navigate from a smartphone.

Once you claim your profile and optimize it, stay vigilant. Post photos from any special events, make regular announcements and respond to all comments. Thank users for their positive reviews, and invite them back again. If there was an issue, apologize, and update the customer on what you are doing to fix it. If it is particularly negative, respond to the reviewer privately- the last thing you want is to engage in a nasty public debate with a dissatisfied customer that others can see.
